How to draw a niche, alcove or passageway

In your Alternative, you can create a niche or alcove in a wall. One of the niches is suitable for use as a kitchen hatch.  You can also put an archway or passage into another room.

 

Creating a niche, alcove or hatch for an External Wall 

  1. Click on the Room definition mode icon in the Toolbar.

  1. In the Plan window, select the wall you wish to create a niche on.

  2. In the Toolbar, click on the Add wall object to selected wall icon.

  1. In the Select object window, go to the Niches/Passages drop-down.

  2. Select your niche and click OK.

  3. Enter your parameter choices and click OK.

  4. In the Select placement window, you can enter the specific distance where you want to place the niche.  Click OK.

Your niche will be placed in the selected wall.   

  • You can click and drag the niche in the Plan for horizontal placement or the Front Elevation for vertical placement on the wall.
  • In an external wall, the niche background will be opaque and will automatically match the material of the wall it is placed on.  This can be changed in the parameters.
  • Add a decoration quickly by turning on the decoration option in the parameters.

 

Creating a niche, alcove, hatch or passageway for an internal/false wall 

  1. Click on the Room definition mode icon in the Toolbar.

  1. In the Plan window, select the Draw interior wall icon in the Toolbar.

  1. Click on the Select tool icon to the right in the Toolbar.

  1. Click on the side of the false wall that you want to place the niche.

  2. Right-click and select Add wall object.
  1. In the Select object window, go to the Niches/Passages drop-down.
    In the Niches/Passages drop down, of the options listed there are Continuous or Flush mounted.  Continuous will cut through the whole false wall, whereas Flush mounted will provide a back like an external wall.  You can also choose rectangular or arched passageways here.

  2. Select your niche or passageway and click OK.

  3. Enter your parameter choices and click OK.

  4. In the Select placement window, you can enter the specific distance where you want to place the niche.  Click OK

Your niche/alcove/hatch or passageway will be placed in the selected wall.
