This article takes you through the steps of creating a simple roof lantern:
Note: If you require a more complex structure please contact your local Support Team and provide them with photos or a diagram of what you wish to achieve.
Creating a roof lantern
In Room definition mode:
- In the Room Properties window, set the Ceiling Height to the desired apex of the roof lantern, where the glass roof will come to a point.
Note: For more information, see How to change the ceiling height. - Select an exterior wall and insert an interior wall against it. In the Complete: indicate thickness window, set the Depth of the interior wall to simulate the flat area of the ceiling; a lesser depth will equal a larger roof lantern, and a greater depth will equal a smaller roof lantern. Click OK.
Note: For more information, see Draw an interior wall. - In the Interior wall properties window, set the Height as the difference between the desired ceiling height and the apex of the roof lantern. For example, if the apex was 3000mm high and the desired ceiling height was 2400mm high, the difference would be 600mm. Then click the Advanced settings drop-down menu and set the Distance from floor to the desired ceiling height, and click OK.
Note: For more information, see Interior Wall Properties. - Select the inner edge of the interior wall, then right-click and select Add sloping ceiling object.
Note: You may need to drag and drop the interior wall into position first. - In the Select object window, select W005 001 and click OK.
Note: This sloped ceiling allows you to specify the height and depth, both of which are required. - In the Set parameters for object window, enter the measurements for your roof lantern:
- Width = Would normally match the width of the selected interior wall edge.
- Height = Enter the value that is the difference between the ceiling and the apex. This value should match the height of the interior wall you inserted earlier.
- Depth = How far from the the slope projects (the lateral displacement). This value should be to the apex of the roof lantern, where all the slopes will come together to a point.
- In the Select placement for object window, in the Distance field enter 0.
Note: You can drag and drop the object to reposition later if required. - Select the interior wall with the sloping ceiling attached and right-click and Copy.
- Selecting them one at a time, paste it onto the three remaining exterior walls. In our example these are all the same length, if you have different length exterior walls you will need to adjust the interior wall length and sloping ceiling object width, to match the exterior wall they are attached to.
- In the Perspective window, select one of the faces of the slopes, right-click and select Add object.
- In the Select object window, select an appropriately shaped window. In our example we have used Gable window W006 004. Click OK.
- In the Set parameters for object window, enter the Width and Height of the slope face and click OK. In the Select placement for object window, ensure both distance values are 0 and click OK.
Note: You should be able to see these measurements in the Front Elevation window. - Select the window you have just placed, then right-click and select Properties. In the Object parameters window, enter the Depth as 0 and click OK.
Note: Here users can also adjust other settings, such as the width of the window frame and sash. - Repeat steps 10 to 13 for the three remaining slope faces.
