To import your own CSV file, or even create your own data catalogue by using Microsoft Excel, you will first need to create a catalogue template from inside Winner.
Step 1: Create a blank catalogue
- At project level from the menu bar select Register > Catalogues. This opens the Registered catalogues window, which lists all installed catalogues.
- On the menu bar within this window select Catalogue>New. You will now be prompted to enter the name of the new catalogue.
- Once the catalogue name has been entered click OK, you will now see the new catalogue displayed in the Registered catalogues list.
A catalogue in Winner must have at least one Product Group and at least one Model.
See article How can I create my own catalogue? for more information.
Step 2: Creating a Product Group
- Within the Registered catalogues window and with the new catalogue selected, from the menu bar select Groups/Models >Edit. This will open another window called Groups / Models.
- To create the product group, from the menu bar, select Product Group > Add group.
- Enter the name of the product group and click on OK - it is the product group that holds the models.
Note: If more than 1 price group is needed, this needs to be defined in the product group. Select Group properties on the Product groups menu, in this window you can specify the number of price groups available within this product group.
See article Product groups and Models for more information.
Step 3: Creating Models
- Once the product group is created, models can be added.
- Select Models > Add model from the menu bar in the Groups / Models window.
- Name the model.
- Enter the properties of this model, for example price group.
- Create as many models as necessary, each may have a different price group.
Step 4: Adding Products
Having setup product groups and models it is now possible to begin adding products.
- In the Register catalogues window, from the menu bar, select Products > Edit
- This opens the catalogue and products can now be added. For an explanation of this screen and its minimum requirements see article How can I create my own catalogue?
- Click OK after each product has been added. More can be added by repeating 1-3.
Note: From this window you can enter a code and description, select which Item group and Search group you would like the item to appear in. You can also enter prices. More detailed information on each of the fields is available from the article How can I create my own catalogue? - Shut Winner down and restart it, the catalogue will now need indexing before you can use it. See the article How can I setup my cost and sales index? for more information.
Step 5: Creating a CSV File
- To save the catalogue as a CSV file go back to the Registered Catalogues screen
- Select Catalogue>Save As CSV File from the menu bar.
- A save as screen will appear, give the csv file a name and click Save.
Note: Winner will by default save this file to your Export folder, if you want to save it elsewhere change the destination in the Save in drop-down box. - Close down your Registered catalogues screen.
- If a screen is shown asking if you want to export your catalogue – always click Yes.
Step 6: Importing a CSV File into Excel
- Open up a blank Excel sheet. From the menu bar at the top select the Data tab, then select From Text/csv icon.
- Find the CSV file created at Step 4 and click Import
- Click on Load
- Information should now be entered into the spreadsheet. The minimum data required is the code (column A) the description (column B) and the price group (column S). More information can be entered if required, but it is not necessary.
IMPORTANT: When importing .csv files if you are using CMC Product Group IDs must be entered or items will not price. These are separated by categories:10 – Furniture
20 – Worktops
30 – Sinks
40 – Electrical Appliances
50 – Accessories
60 – Trade goods - Once all the data has been input, go to File in the top left corner and select Save As.
- Select the location where you want to save it and give your CSV file a name.
NOTE! Ensure that in the drop-down box next to Save as type to select the option for CSV (Comma delimited). - Click Save.
Step 7: Importing a CSV File into Winner
- Once the file has been saved, close it and go back into the Winner Design software.
- From the menu bar at the top select Register>Catalogues. This will bring up the Registered Catalogues screen again.
- Find the catalogue created at Step 1 and left click on it once so that it is highlighted in gold in the list. Once highlighted, go to Catalogue in the top left corner and select Fetch from CSV file.
- Browse through and find the CSV file saved at Step 6 and click on Open.
- When importing has finished a screen will appear listing how many products have been imported. This is dependent on the number of codes entered in the Excel sheet.
- Click OK.
